About the game
Spades
Spades is the classic partnership trick taking game: you team up with the partner across the table against the two bots on the sides. Before each round everyone bids how many tricks they will take, from nil to 13, and your team must make the total of both bids.
Spades are trump and can only lead a trick once they are broken. Pick Easy, Medium or Hard, play to 500 points or a shorter game to 250, and follow your wins, best round and successful nils in the statistics.
How to play
- 4 players in 2 teams. Earn points each round by correctly bidding the number of tricks you will win. Spades beat all other suits.
On the keyboardWhen bidding, arrows or numbers pick and Enter confirms; on your turn, arrows pick a card and Enter plays it. S opens the statistics.
Tips to play better
- 1Count aces, kings and high spades when you bid. An unprotected queen rarely wins a trick, so do not bid on it.
- 2Once your team has made its bid, try to lose the next tricks: every extra trick is a bag, and 10 bags cost you 100 points.
- 3With a weak hand, no aces and few spades, a nil bid is worth 100 points. Always play your lowest card and let your partner cover you.
- 4When your partner is already winning the trick, throw your lowest card instead of wasting a face card on top of theirs.

Frequently asked questions
How does scoring work in Spades?
If your team makes its bid, you score 10 points per trick bid plus 1 for each extra trick. If you fall short, you lose 10 points per trick bid.
Can I play a spade at any time?
You can trump whenever you cannot follow the suit led. To lead a spade, spades must already be broken, unless your hand has nothing but spades.
